4 steps to healthy, glowing skin

girl in field We'll give you some really helpful tips here on how to properly take care of your skin by establishing a good skin-care routine.
Although you might think 'a skin is a skin', there are in fact many different types of skin. Depending on your type of skin, there is a right way of cleansing your face right through to applying the best moisturisers, sunscreens and other skin-care products. It takes a little bit of effort at first to establish a good habit, but you'll definitely see the benefit of a good skin-care routine after a little while.

Before you blindly begin cleansing your face, it is very important to establish the type of skin you have. No skin is the same, so have your skin checked out by a professional beautician or dermatologist. Roughly however there are four types of skin: oily, normal/combination, dry, or sensitive.girl-in-field-standing-free-337px

The first step in your skin-care routine is cleansing. The rule of thumb here is to keep it simple and not to overdo it. Find yourself a good cleanser that your skin responds well to, and stick with it. A good cleanser (or any skin-care product for that matter) doesn't have to cost lots of dollars by the way. A cleanser from the drugstore on the corner usually does an equal good a job as the fancy wash from the top end chemist. However, don't overdo it with the cheap thing. A bar of soap is always an absolute 'no no'. Only use a bar of soap from the neck down please.

Another rule of thumb in your skin-care routine is to not cleanse your face too often. Cleanse your face only in the evening before you go to bed. Use warm water to get rid of the dirt of the surface, use a dime-sized bit of cleanser to thoroughly clean and then rinse with cool or lukewarm water. In the morning, a splash of lukewarm water will do to remove excess oils from your nightly moisturising. Be careful not to use too hot or too cold water as both can cause broken capillaries.

The second step to a healthy skin-care routine is exfoliation, which most people seem to skip in their skincare routine. However, weekly exfoliating your skin makes an instant difference to your appearance. There are several ways to exfoliate skin, such as scrubbing. These scrub products basically work by removing the top layer of dead skin cells that tend to dull your complexion. Exfoliating your skin once a week will keep it glowing year-round and will definitely increase your overall wellness. Make sure to use a gentle scrub with tiny grains though as big grains can cause more harm than good.

A chemical peel unfortunately comes with a price tag that not everybody can afford, but it can take off five years from your face. There are some over-the-counter peels that work over the course of a month. Definitely worth trying.

The third step in your skin-care routine is a basic law of beauty: every person should, no matter his or her skin type, moisturise. A big slap on your wrist if you have never done so. Even oily skins need moisturising to seal moisture into the skin. Even though you will let you know when it is in need of it. It will feel tight and look dry. So invest in a good moisturiser with several vitamins like B and E in it that suits your skin. Seek the advice of an expert and you'll soon see what a difference a good moisturiser makes.

The fourth step of a good skin routine is sunscreen. The majority of top skin-care experts and dermatologists say that sunscreen is the most important part of your skincare regimen. A lot of people don't know that sun damage is the number one cause of wrinkles. It's extremely important to use sunscreen from your early years on, even in winter and on cloudy days. Don't use it at night though as the ingredients are not meant to be used 24/7 and can actually aggravate your skin.
